Seymour Gitin Distinguished Professorship

$40,000 award for 8 months or $20,000 for 4 months. Room and half-board at the Institute is $1,200 per month and the remainder is stipend. Open to internationally recognized senior scholars of all nationalities who have made significant contributions to their field of study.

Ernest S. Frerichs Annual Professorship

$27,000 award for 9 months or $13,500 for 4.5 months. Room and half-board at the Institute is $1,200 per month and the remainder is stipend. The Annual Professor is expected to be a leader among the community of fellows and mentor to younger fellows while in residence. As such, the recipient is expected to assist the Albright’s Director in planning and implementing the Ernest S. Frerichs Program for Albright Fellows and to organize informal events among the residents. A working knowledge of living and traveling in Israel is desirable. Contact the Director with any quests related to the duties of the position. Open to post-doctoral scholars, who are US citizens.

National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Fellowships

$58,800 available for up to three awards from 4 to 9 months. The award is $4,200 per month. Room and half-board at the Institute is $1,200 per month and the remainder is stipend. Open to post-doctoral scholars who are U.S. citizens (or alien residents for at least three years). Applicants must have completed all requirements, except for the actual conferral of the degree, by the application deadline for the fellowship.

Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) Junior Research Fellowships

$31,000 for up to three awards from 4.5 – 9 months. The award is for $2,138 per month. Room and half-board at the Institute is $1,200 per month and the remainder is stipend. Open to doctoral students and recent Ph.D. recipients who are U.S. citizens.

Carol and Eric Meyers Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship

$3,000 award for 1 month. Room and half-board at the Institute is $1,200 per month and the remainder is stipend. Students of all nationalities at the doctoral level are eligible. While all topics will be considered, those involving the study of archaeology and society at the household level are encouraged.

Marcia and Oded Borowski Research Fellowship

$3,000 award for one month. Room and half-board at the Institute is $1,200 per month and the remainder is stipend. Open to doctoral, post-doctoral, and senior scholars of all nationalities.

Noble Group Fellowships for Chinese Students and Scholars

$51,000 available for up to four awards with a maximum grant of $25,000 for nine months and $12,500 for 4.5 months. Room and half-board at the Institute is $1,200 per month and the remainder is stipend. Open to Chinese citizens who are doctoral students or post-doctoral scholars at Chinese institutions or institutions in other countries.

Guidelines for Preparing your Albright Application

Application materials consist of the following:

  • Online Application Form (to be filled out after the opening of the Application Portal).
  • Three Letters of Recommendation (to be submitted by the recommenders after the opening of the Application Portal).
  • Curriculum Vitae including the following sections, preferably in this order (to be submitted through the Application Portal).
    • Educational History: List institutions, dates of attendance, and degree(s) granted (or expected).
    • Employment History: List positions held and dates of employment.
    • Publications: List bibliographical citations of your academic publications (do not include copies of papers).
    • Fellowships: List and describe scholarships, fellowships, and honors received, especially in teaching, research, archaeological fieldwork, and other experience related to you project.
  • Statement of Proposed Research (3-5 pages, max. 2,000 words) including the following information. This statement is an important element of your application, so please take time with the coherence and presentation of your proposal (to be submitted through the Application Portal).
    • Full description of your intended research.
    • Explanation of the scholarly significance of your research.
    • Details of your methodology/ies of research.
    • Assessment of the feasibility of completing your project.
    • Your qualifications for the proposed program.
    • Final form you expect the publication of your research to take.
